Van Buren State Park is a public recreation area located on Lake Michigan. It covers 400 acres (160 hectares) and is four miles (6.4 kilometers) south of South Haven, Michigan, United States. The park is managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and is found in the southwest part of South Haven Township and the northwest part of Covert Township, just north of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant.

History

The park was created in 1966 after the state bought 167 acres (68 ha) from the Harry LaBar Drake family in 1965. Later, two more land purchases added more land to the park.

Activities and amenities

The park provides opportunities for swimming, picnicking, a playground, a 220-site campground, and access to Van Buren Trail State Park.
