The Michigan History Museum shows the history, people, and land of Michigan. The museum is in Lansing, the state's capital. It focuses on the history of people and traditions in Michigan. Exhibits include information about Native American life, the history of European settlers and traders, important industries like logging and car making, and how Michigan helped during World War I and World War II.
Description
The Michigan History Museum opened in March 1989 as a part of the Michigan Library and Historical Center. The Library and Historical Center brings together four groups—the History Museum, the Library of Michigan, the Michigan State Archives, and the Michigan Law Library—into one building with a shared parking area. This center is located within the Michigan Capitol Complex, a group of state-owned buildings next to the Michigan State Capitol. The Michigan History Museum is the main building of the Michigan History Museum System, a state organization that manages 12 museums and historical sites across Michigan.
As of 2024, the museum has a program that works with the media to share information. It encourages visits from both people who live in Michigan and tourists. The museum offers changing exhibits and special events for visitors. A fee is charged for parking, and a separate fee is required to enter the museum.
