Young State Park is a public recreation area near Boyne City, Michigan. It covers 563 acres (228 ha) on the eastern shore of Lake Charlevoix. Lake Charlevoix is 17,260 acres (6,980 ha) and is located in Charlevoix County. Charlevoix County is in the northwest part of Northern Michigan.
History
Young State Park was one of 13 parks created in 1920. This happened after the Michigan State Parks Commission was formed the year before. The park is named after Adolph and Mary Young, who lived in Charlevoix. They gave land to create the park. The Civilian Conservation Corps helped improve the park in the 1930s.
Activities and amenities
The state park provides swimming, picnicking, five miles of hiking trails, cross-country skiing, a boat launch, fishing for lake trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. There are also three campgrounds available.
